Nine FFA members from the Fallbrook FFA chapter attended the 78th National FFA Convention in Louisville, KY, October 26-29. Students were there to capture the excitement as more than 53,000 FFA members, advisors and guests packed Freedom Hall at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center. The National FFA Convention is an opportunity to recognize young people for their continued service and achievement in the areas of leadership, citizenship and career success.
Three students competed in the National Agriscience Fair Competition. Maggie Maratsos and Ryan Rico competed in the Novice Botany Team Division with their project titled “Are Organically Grown Avocados Superior to Those Grown Commercially?” receiving third place at Nationals, and Amanda Ellis competed in the Novice Zoology Division with her project “Which Type of Horse Bedding is the Best to Use When it Rains?”
The National FFA Convention also brings the acknowledgement of students receiving the highest degree of the FFA program. This year Fallbrook is proud to have four students receive the American Degree, an honor that only one half of one percent of FFA students will receive. Recipients include Chris Cosme, Tonina Desimone, Cassidy Mitchell and Nick Mitchell.
FFA is a national youth organization of 490,017 student members preparing for leadership and careers in the science, business and technology of agriculture with 7,210 local chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
