Making an impact in 4-H

The Fallbrook FFA recently went up north to get steers for the San Diego County Fair. They all had a great time at the Central Valley Showcase, where they were able to bid on some great cattle and meet new people from throughout California. Then last week, a group of exhibitors went on a journey back up to the sale location, where they learned how to groom and take care of their steers. All participants learned a lot and now are ready to care properly for their animals. There is a lot to learn when raising a steer: how to feed it, wash and rinse it, clip it and train it to lead. These members now have a head start on their projects.

Besides getting ready for animals to arrive, the Fallbrook FFA is preparing for the San Diego Section Field Day, which will take place in Fallbrook on December 10. Many schools from San Diego will be attending. Some of the competitions include livestock, small animal and horse judging, vegetable judging and record book judging. These competitions give local San Diego youth the opportunity to practice their skills so that they can compete next year at regional and state levels. Good luck, Fallbrook FFA! We will anxiously await the results!

The Fallbrook 4-H is still putting together the float that will be seen in the Fallbrook Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 3. They are looking forward to a great turnout to see the wonderful sleigh. Along with working on the float, the Community Pride Project has been doing some community service. Last week they made fleece blankets that were sent to an orphanage in Mexico with Christ The King Church. They made 27 blankets that will make keep children warm for the holidays. Their next event will be wrapping gifts at the Food Pantry and then delivering treats to the skilled nursing facility.

Just a reminder: the next Fallbrook 4-H meeting is on December 6 at 7:00 p.m. All members are encouraged to attend in order to keep updated on project meetings and meet new friends.
