County offers sand, bags for residents

With the rainy season here, San Diego County’s Department of Public Works (DPW) wants to help residents of unincorporated areas prevent soil erosion on their property. The department is providing free sand and sandbags at seven strategic locations, including two in Valley Center.

Materials are available at fire stations in Ramona, Valley Center, Julian, Bonita, Alpine and Lakeside. Each location currently has 4,000 bags and 10 cubic yards of sand. Residents should bring their own shovels to load sand.

The DPW spent about $60,000 on materials and will restock as supplies dwindle. The closest locations to Fallbrook are the two in Valley Center, located at 28205 N. Lake Wohlford Road (#73) and 16971 Highway 76.
