MDA fundraiser held at Caf

FALLBROOK — Fallbrook business associates accused of “having a big heart” volunteered to be “arrested and serve time behind bars” as part of the Fallbrook Lock-Up to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) in San Diego. The Executive Lock-Up was held on Thursday, November 17, and was generously hosted by Michael Calvanese, owner of Café Des Artistes. Café Des Artistes is located in the heart of Fallbrook inside the Arts Center at 103 S. Main Avenue.

Arresting officers, the local Senior Volunteer Patrol, picked up 18 “jailbirds.” Jailbirds were picked up by uniformed parole officers in “Paddy Wagons” and taken to a VIP jailhouse at Café Des Artistes. While in jail, they had their mug shots taken and mingled with other friendly felons from the local business community, all while raising their bail. All “jailbirds” were able to enjoy a scrumptious lunch donated by Café Des Artistes. This year the individual bail was set at $1,200, which sends two local kids to MDA Summer Camp at Camp Cuyamaca. Happily, generous Fallbrook citizens donated over $13,000, sending 21 kids to camp. Some of the top jailbirds at this year’s Lock-Up include:

• David Hadley, SK Specialties — $1,336

• Bob Anderson, Trident Sales Corp — $1,200

• Granger Haugh, Cliniqa Corporation — $1,200

• Steven Zenz, South Coast Structural Inc. — $1,200

The top bail-raisers were Todd & Sandy Goodman from Compumax, who raised $1,695!
