RE: 'How many will be maimed, killed?'

Your letter sounded so depressing. Marines try not to dwell on that trash. Mission accomplishment is paramount. Sure, those things that you speak of are around somewhere in a Marine’s head, but firmly pushed to the very back. We signed up to serve our country, so please, don’t cry and wonder, “What are you doing to our youth?” That’s more insulting than anything. We are proud to serve. Why are you angry? This is the life of a Marine. Don’t be sad — but continue being angry. Continue to be angry that terrorists are trying to destroy a free society. Be angry knowing that a terrorist would kill YOUR family right NOW if he could simply because you are a United States citizen. Be angry knowing that if we don’t finish the job, then all of our families here in the States WILL be at risk someday. I don’t want to give the terrorists a shot at my child, and you should be doing everything in your power to stop them from getting to yours. Be angry, enlist or just let us be Marines.
