Also serving the communities of De Luz, Rainbow, Camp Pendleton, Pala and Pauma
I have never taken the time to write a letter about a candidate for office, but then again, I’ve never met a man like Bruce Thompson, candidate for the 5th District Supervisor. The County Supervisor seat is a position that serves as the head of government for our little community. I have stayed apathetic far too long, as I’ve seen issues like bad roads, traffic, home density, plans for dumps and rock quarries and border issues affect our little village. We are seeing a rapid decline in the quality of life all around San Diego County.
Several years ago I lost two close friends to traffic accidents on Highway 76. At that time I did write a letter to the editor asking “when will there be a politician with enough character to stand up for what’s right, and for what, we the people, are really asking for?” Until now, that politician has not surfaced.
Supervisor Bill Horn has, for 12 years, supposedly had our best interest in mind, but I have to ask, “Do the above issues seem like they have gotten better or worse to you?” Although I have met Bill on several occasions and I’m sure he ran for office with the best intentions in mind, I believe he has fully lost the passion needed to get our communities back to where they need to be.
Did you know that according to Fallbrook Fair Plan (www.fallbrookfairplan.com), a non-profit organization trying desperately to protect our future, San Diego County proposes a new city in Pala Mesa Valley changing existing zoning law for approximately 600 rural homes into high-density apartments, condos and commercial space? County estimates for increased traffic at I-15/Interstate 76 exceed 100,000 car trips per day and 3,600 heavy trucks per day to serve this new city, the approved new County dump and rock quarry. This totals approximately 150 additional cars and trucks PER MINUTE, with NO major road improvements mandated or existing monies allocated for road improvements.
We need a leader who can help us get the future we want for our families. Bruce Thompson has served the communities of Fallbrook and Bonsall extremely well. It was at the strong suggestion of many friends and supporters, who feel a tremendous need for change that Bruce made the decision to run for the 5th District Supervisor.
As a former Fallbrook Elementary School Board Member, Bruce understands issues like the quality of education facing our children (including his own eight). He worked on issues that kept our schools performing well. Then a very successful businessman, he heard the call to serve the people and was elected as our representative in the 66th Assembly District (Fallbrook, Bonsall, Vista, Valley Center, Temecula, etc.). While in the CA Legislature from 1994-2000, we found the term “honest politician” didn’t have to be an oxymoron! Bruce was and is honest, dedicated and trustworthy.
The definition of a great politician, in my interpretation, means one who has the character and integrity to always put the best interests of the people first. Bruce Thompson is such a proven leader who served just such a role. He serves the people with honor, truthfulness and character. Many times Bruce returned political contributions because accepting them might have compromised that character. So for six years, he represented the people of North County on the floor of the State Legislature, fighting the tough battle on issues like education, family values, illegal immigration, and many local issues. If there was something we the people felt vitally important, you can bet Bruce was there to get it done for us!
As a testament to the quality of this man, he was twice reelected by a mandate of those he served. When term limits came calling, Bruce gladly handed the reigns over to Dennis Hollingsworth, now Senator Hollingsworth and one of Bruce’s biggest supporters. Bruce fully supports term limits. In fact, one of his commitments when he is elected is to ask that a 12 year limit be imposed on County Supervisors to ensure our elected officials stay focused and not become ‘all powerful’ as we witnessed in the Willie Brown era.
Bruce’s past expertise in business, and dedication to the people made him the perfect candidate for a White House appointment to the U.S. Small Business Administration. Appointed in 2001, he currently serves as Regional Director for the SBA. In this capacity, he helps provide loans for businesses and disaster relief funds for citizens in the western U.S., including North San Diego County.
Now Bruce feels the need to support his hometown and help us fight the battle. So, if you’re troubled with the quality of life issues like I am and want a positive change in Fallbrook and Bonsall, please help us elect a new leader. You can learn more about Bruce and join myself and almost 1000 others in his campaign at http://www.electbruce.com. Bruce could use your endorsement, your time and your contributions (limit of $500 per person, no business contributions). You can also contact the campaign and have Bruce come speak to your group. Please understand, this is not only better for our community, but a strong investment in the property values of this local area. People want to move here because we are the “little village”, not another booming metropolis.
