Live Oak becomes Egypt for a day!

I love the week before Christmas vacation! There are so many activities that make school such a blast.

On Wednesday the sixth grade students dressed up as Egyptians. Students rotated to three different activities. There was Egyptian geometry and King Tut drawings and they also played an Egyptian game called Segee. Afterward teams of three students participated in a mummy wrap. The students selected one person to be mummified. In a certain amount of time, two students had to completely wrap their mummy in toilet paper. Then the teachers judged the best mummies. Toilet paper was everywhere. They finished up the day with an Egyptian feast. Kids dined on grapes, olives, pita bread, hummus, barley, rice pilaf, meats, couscous, dried dates, figs, mangos and cranberries.

On Thursday the sixth-graders participated in a pajama read-in. Dressed in pajamas, students drank hot chocolate and read for about two hours.

Student council held a canned food drive to support troops and hurricane victims. They also held a pantry clean-out, where the student council and peace patrol cleaned out over 200 canned goods throughout the day.

Live Oak had its first Winter Celebration with piñatas, tamales and lots of entertainment. Lots of people attended and the party was a quite a hit.

Thank you to those who helped make these activities possible and great job to those who participated in all these activities. I hope you have a safe and restful holiday, and remember, Live Oak rocks!
