Sullivan artists compete in fifth annual event

BONSALL — Sullivan Middle School in Bonsall held their Fifth Annual Library Art contest last week. This year’s theme was to create a book title, create an author and illustrate a book cover using both. The entries could be any size and use any medium. Students voted for their favorite entry, and Sullivan teachers Melissa Gregg, Marietta Best and Leslie Burgener juried the entries anonymously using a point system and also chose their favorite entries. Ribbons and cash prizes were awarded by Principal John Heckman at a pizza lunch. The artwork is on display in the Sullivan Library. The contest was created five years ago by librarian Diane Kennedy to encourage the artistic creativity of Sullivan students. This year’s finalists are:

First place

Eighth grade: Sarah Weber

Second place

Sixth grade: Kayla Honarvar

Seventh grade (tie): Stuart Henderson & Marc Casillas

Eighth grade: Maxie Mertens

Third place

Seventh grade: Sandra Ruiz

Eighth grade: Melaine Capulong
