Lawrence Frederick Rue of Fallbrook, CA, died on April 7, 2006, of complications due to cancer. He was 60 years of age. He was born on August 18, 1945, in Dublin, Ireland, to an Irish mother and a US Army Air Force Captain. Mr. Rue came to the United States as an infant. He grew up in Torrance, CA, and Duarte and graduated from La Salle High School in 1963.
He enlisted in the US Army in 1966 and served in Vietnam. His awards and campaign ribbons include the Army Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He graduated from the University of California at Irvine with a BA in history.
Mr. Rue was employed by the Coca-Cola Bottling Company for three decades and was a proud member of the Teamsters Union. He also owned and operated his own painting-contracting company.
He was a lover of Irish wolfhounds and owned many during his lifetime.
Mr. Rue was devoted to his family. He is survived by his wife, Gloria; son & daughter-in-law Michael & Lynn of Yountville, CA; parents Fred & Laura, Duarte, CA; brother & sister-in-law Col. Kevin B. & Rose Marie, Alexandria, VA; and sisters Colette, Seattle, WA, & Denise, Montclair, NJ. He is also survived by his first wife, Elizabeth, Bend, OR.
Services will be held at Berry-Bell & Hall Fallbrook Mortuary at 3 p.m. on April 20, 2006, with a viewing from 12 to 3 p.m. Internment with full military honors to take place at the Riverside National Cemetery at 10:45 a.m. on April 21, 2006.
