Chef Yujiro Masuda of the Sushi no Hanayoshi restaurant Japan announced he will be preparing his famous California roll as an entry in the 20th Annual Fallbrook Avocado Festival. About three years ago, Yujiro started making avocado sushi for his customers. The dish captivated them and his fame has grown because of his innovative use of avocados.
Fallbrook Avocado Festival organizers, the Fallbrook Chamber of Commerce will provide an “Avocado Dish Preparation Demonstration” area at the festival to allow festival-goers the opportunity to learn for themselves new methods and wonderful ideas on different ways to use avocados in various dishes. Local chefs have been invited to join in on making presentations onstage at the demonstration area.
Both the demonstration area stage and Avocado Culinary contest area will be at 330 S. Main Avenue on Sunday, April 23, during the Fallbrook Avocado Festival. Avocado Dish Preparation presentations will begin on the hour at 10 a.m. and continue until 5:00 p.m.
Entries for both professional and amateur divisions of the culinary contest are available at the Fallbrook Chamber of Commerce office, located at 233 E. Mission Road. The Chamber office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Application deadline is Monday, April 17.
Professionals will compete in the Best Tasting Guacamole, Best Tasting Salsa and Most Creative Avocado Dish categories. Amateurs will be judged in their own Best Tasting Guacamole, Best Tasting Salsa, Most Creative Avocado Dish categories and Best Tasting Dish Using Fallbrook Fruit.
