Arlington West Memorial in Fallbrook

FALLBROOK — Memorial Day, Monday, May 29, the San Diego Veterans for Peace (SDVFP) (www.sdvfp.org) will present the Arlington West Memorial at Live Oak Park in Fallbrook from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. An Individual Cross, Star of David or Crescent is placed for each US soldier killed. Out of respect for the fallen troops, SDVFP insists that partisan arguments are set aside at this site in the hope that people will simply reflect on the human cost of the Iraq War in a solemn, non-political setting.

San Diego Veterans for Peace is composed of men and women, including those who served in combat in World War II and the Korean, Vietnam, Gulf and Iraq Wars. SDVFP has been presenting the memorial since the beginning of the Iraq War.

The event is being co-sponsored by the Democratic Club of Greater Fallbrook (www.fallbrookdemocraticclub.com) and Faith Leaders for Peace (www.flfpeace.org), a San Diego group of religious leaders from all faith traditions who work for peace in Iraq. The group includes over 70 Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Buddhist and Sufi clergy. At 11 a.m. they will be giving a memorial service, each in their own tradition.
