Letter carriers food drive a success

The members of the Board of Directors of the Fallbrook Food Pantry wish to thank our Postmistress, Vickie Garcia, and the letter carriers of the Fallbrook Post Office for their successful food drive of Saturday, May 13. We also thank the many people who participated by leaving bags of groceries at their mailboxes that day. As of 6:00 Saturday evening, the food pantry had received nine truckloads of approximately 1,000 pounds each of food collected by the letter carriers.

Letter carrier Tony Ablong announced that they still have one more truckload at the post office, which were scheduled be picked up by volunteers at the food pantry this Monday morning. Working along with Executive Director Don Luallin and board members Frank Russell, Rex Moran, Jean Dooley, Sue Russell, Jim Dooley and Namiko Taniguchi were Navy Corpsmen Ian and J.J., who volunteered their time from Camp Pendleton to unload the truck and sort the food at the food pantry.

This food will go a long way in helping to fill the grocery bags of Fallbrook’s impoverished and the stomachs of needy children in our community. Thank you, letter carriers, for your dedication and service to our community. And, thank you to all who shared your food items with the needy during this food drive.
