Fallbrook High School’s girls track team will have six entries in the CIF meet.
In addition to the six entries guaranteed a slot at the CIF preliminaries May 20 at Mount Carmel High School, Sha’dere McNeal is the first alternate for the long jump and will compete if any long jumper who qualified for the CIF meet is unable to participate. McNeal qualified for the CIF meet in three other events and thus will already be present.
“We’re happy with what we’ve done. We’ve got a very young group of girls,” said Fallbrook head coach Tim Hauck. “We have some very promising freshman, sophomore girls.”
McNeal is a freshman. At the league finals May 12 at Vista High School her time of 60.81 seconds in the 400-meter dash placed fourth and qualified for the CIF meet and her high jump of 4’11” also placed fourth at the league meet and earned a trip to the CIF competition for that event. McNeal was also on the 4x100 relay team which placed fifth at the league meet with a time of 50.22 seconds and will compete at the CIF meet. Although she ended up as an alternate in the long jump, her distance of 15 feet, 8 1/2 inches was third at the league finals.
McNeal will be joined on the relay team by sophomore Chemille Schuck, junior Cheryl McMahen, and senior Jennifer Doehring. Doehring is the only senior who will be competing for Fallbrook at the CIF meet.
Two Warriors will be representing Fallbrook in the 1600-meter run at the CIF competition; freshman Noelle Garcia finished fifth at the league meet with a time of 5:19.50 while junior Amy Hansen was sixth in the league finals with a time of 5:22.53. Sophomore Briana Lopez was third in the league meet in the 3200-meter run with a time of 11:47.98 and qualified for the CIF meet.
Sophomore Aimee Garrett placed fourth in the pole vault at the league meet, although her 8’3” distance did not qualify for the CIF meet.
“Very, very versatile, very talented young ladies,” Hauck said.
The youth of the team was not conducive to an impressive record; Fallbrook was 1-6 in dual meets including a 1-4 Avocado League record which placed the Warriors fifth in the league standings. The league meet is not scored.
“We’re real pleased with how they did at league,” Hauck said.
“We’ve got a very nice group of freshman hurdlers, about four girls, who I think are going to turn into something really good over the next couple of years,” Hauck said. “We’re looking forward to watching some of these young ladies develop even more.”
