NEW YORK — Desiree Salomone, FUHS Class of 2002, graduated from prestigious Sarah Lawrence College on May 19, 2006.
Desiree received her Bachelor of Arts degree in liberal arts. Various areas of study included theatre, gender and sexuality studies and visual arts. Most recently, her installation sculpture titled “Self-Portrait of My Father” was curated in a summer show at the Barbara Walters Gallery. Theatrical successes include playing Helen of Troy in “Orestes,” playing Duperet in “Marat/Sade” and assistant directing “Speak Truth to Power” alongside esteemed faculty member Ernest Abuba.
Her hobbies include travel — in recent years to Brazil, where she volunteered at Vo Flor Orphanage, and South Africa, where she spent a semester at the University of Cape Town and studied with the African Gender Institute — and cheerleading. Desiree was a member of Cheer New York, a nonprofit cheerleading squad raising funds for such causes as the National Lesbian and Gay Anti-Violence Project.
Desiree plans to return to South Africa, where she will pursue an internship in gender advocacy this September.
