Leake drafted by Oakland Athletics

Fallbrook High School pitcher Mike Leake was selected by the Oakland Athletics in the professional baseball draft.

Leake, a right-handed starter, was selected June 6 with the 218th overall pick of the draft.

“I’m surprised and excited. It was nice,” Leake said. “It’s just an honor to get signed, especially that high.”

Leake was somewhat surprised by the high round in which he was taken. “I had an idea that I might be, but I didn’t actually think that it would actually follow through,” he said.
