FALLBROOK — Iowa Street School recently honored students for their outstanding achievements in the National and Presidential Physical Fitness testing. Arlene Eyerman, organizer of their weekly group class, presented awards at a special assembly.
Twenty-five students earned national awards. Fifteen students earned the National Physical Fitness Award by scoring in the 50th percentile or better in five events. Ten additional students earned the Presidential Physical Fitness Award, given to students for an outstanding level of physical fitness scoring at or above the 85th percentile in five events based on the 1985 School Population Fitness Survey. The five events for both awards are curl-ups, shuttle run, endurance run/walk, pull-ups/right angle push-ups and sit and reach.
Students met weekly to earn these awards and participate in large-group games and skills while working individually on their PE skills other days with their families.
