Fallbrook — Envirepel announced this week a development effort for biomass and waste-to-energy projects for San Diego County. Proposed locations include a biomass facility in Fallbrook and waste-to-energy facilities at Ramona, Sycamore, Otai and Miramar landfills. Envirepel’s combustion technology will allow these facilities to operate at near zero emissions, completely enclosed in attractive concrete tilt-up buildings that look more like office buildings.
According to an Envirepel press release, total generation would be enough for 250,000 to 300,000 homes and reduce the county’s need for additional landfills. Combined, the facilities could consume most of the county’s solid waste which now goes into landfills.
The unique part of Envirepel biomass and waste-to-energy facility designs lies in the fact that their emissions are almost zero. Apparently these emissions are cleaner than the same size natural gas power plant.
Envirepel is a locally owned company dedicated to protecting the environment.
