Tull, Hasvold medal at CIF track and field finals

Two members of Fallbrook High School’s boys track and field team medaled at the CIF finals May 27 at Mount Carmel High School.

Mike Tull placed fourth in both the shot put and the discus while Bret Hasvold finished fifth in the 1,600-meter run. Hasvold also finished seventh, one position away from a medal, in the 800-meter run, and Ross Dixon placed eighth in the high jump.

The points from the five events gave Fallbrook 11th place in the Division I team standings. “We were pretty pleased all in all,” said Fallbrook boys track and field head coach Marty Hauck.

Tull had a discus throw of 157 feet, 7 inches. The top three times and distances in each event at the CIF finals qualified for the state meet June 2-3 at Cerritos College, and Tull’s throw was two inches short of sending him to the state meet. “A little disappointing, obviously,” Hauck said.

Tull also had a shot put throw of 53 feet, 2 inches.

“He had a tremendous season,” Hauck said of Tull, a senior who is expected to throw for Cal State University Northridge during the 2007 collegiate track and field season.

Hasvold’s time in the 1,600-meter run of 4:19.98 was a new personal best and was also the best time ever for a Fallbrook High School sophomore. “A very impressive run,” Hauck said.

Hasvold had a time of 1:59.17 in the 800-meter run.

Dixon, a senior, had a jump of 6’0” in the finals.
