FALLBROOK — Friends of the Fallbrook Library announce a brand new look for their popular bookstore, The Bottom Shelf. The Bottom Shelf is located on the lower level of the Fallbrook Library at 124 S. Mission Road. It is staffed by over 100 volunteers.
Renovations resulted in more interior space and expanded shelf capacity. The children’s book section is now located in a cozy area named “Kid’s Korner” and features additional shelf space for its young readers from kindergarten through high school. Bright new signs mark shelves designated by subject and include sections devoted to mystery/suspense/thriller, general fiction, biographies, history, politics, government, business, economics and education, which includes text and reference books of all types. An ever-changing selection of art, crafts, gardening, cookbooks, fitness, health, wellbeing, inspiration, humor, faith and values, religion, sports, hobbies, recreation, animals, romance, westerns, sci-fi and fantasy are always available. For people seeking the classics and collectible books, each day brings new surprises.
Oversize “coffee table” books, a small selection of large print editions and foreign language books round out the book selections.
All are gently used, reasonably priced and in both hard and soft cover.
Selected magazines, greeting cards, record albums, sheet music, music, videos and audio books on CDs and tapes are also offered.
The Bottom Shelf bookstore is always staffed by Friends of the Fallbrook Library volunteers who will eagerly help customers find books, answer questions and gratefully receive donations to replace their inventory. Donations of materials must be clean and in good condition. The Bottom Shelf can no longer accept encyclopedias, Reader’s Digest books or large collections of National Geographic magazines.
Special promotions throughout the year include a “Super Summer Sale” in effect through Labor Day, “Christmas in July” July 10 through 15, the “Holiday Extravaganza” after Thanksgiving and a variety of special sale and bargain days. Author appearances and book signings as well as an in-store silent auction later this summer are also planned.
To receive an advance notice of sales and special events by e-mail, add your name to the list at the bookstore or visit http://www.geocities.com/fallbrookfriends.
All proceeds from The Bottom Shelf benefit the Fallbrook Public Library, and at the Friends annual meeting in April it was announced that the bookstore had earned over $80,000 last year. Friends of the Fallbrook Library is a nonprofit volunteer organization dedicated to supporting the library and its programs. It operates the Bottom Shelf and sponsors the “Book Talk” discussion group and the annual Community Read. To become a member pick up a form at the library or bookstore or contact Membership Chairman Peggy Kesterson at (760) 451-8686. To volunteer, forms are available at the bookstore.
