Last year I had an opportunity to visit the Wiens Family Cellars on a media visit with Linda Kissam, executive director of the Temecula Valley Winegrowers Association. For the past six months the Wiens Family operated from a temporary 750-square-foot tasting room. Wiens Family Cellars is now getting ready to move into a new 12,000-square-foot tasting room, event center and production facility. The $4 million project, three years in the making, is expected to be completed by mid-August, according to Jeff Wiens, who owns and operates the winery with several family members. In addition to a 2,500-square-foot tasting room, the new facility will have an outdoor tasting bar. The 2.5-acre winery sits on 10 acres on Rancho California Road just east of Ponte Family Estate Winery. Over the next several months Wiens said the winery’s workforce will nearly triple to about 30 employees. The family farms about 35 acres in the Temecula Valley and in other parts of Riverside County and buys grapes from contract growers. The winery will be able to produce about 10,000 to 15,000 cases a year. “That’s enough out of this facility,” says Wiens, who helped move the family winemaking operations from Central California to Temecula.
Wiens Family Cellars is located seven miles east of I-15 on Rancho California Road in, of course, our own Temecula Valley Wine Country. They can be contacted through http://www.wiencellars.com or by calling (951) 694-9892.
And now I have to rush off, as I make preparations for my vacation in Alaska. Until next week, when I will be writing to you from the land of glaciers, snow, fishing and adventure, take care and enjoy life. CHEERS!
