FALLBROOK — Many of us take things for granted in our community. The Senior Volunteers of our Fallbrook Sheriff’s Substation are indeed a rare breed and go somewhat unnoticed in their daily routine. These individuals, approximately 55 strong, are devoted to their task and are truly the eyes and ears of the Sheriff’s Department.
They are responsible for administering the YANA (You Are Not Alone) program. Every morning and on pre-scheduled days once a week, a volunteer makes telephone contact with those shut-in seniors who have joined the program and visit to check on their well being.
Other duties are assisting with traffic control at emergencies, policing the handicapped parking spaces for violations, residential vacation checks and transporting sheriff’s vehicles to Escondido for needed services, freeing the deputies’ time to remain on patrol in Fallbrook.
The Fallbrook Vintage Car Club (FVCC) is indeed proud to support their efforts now as they have for the past four years. Those who are over 55, are in good physical condition and have time on their hands and a desire to volunteer are invited to give Manny Ortega a call at the sub-station for more information on joining the Senior Volunteers.
