Along with its previously restored Crossle’ 32, Holladay Racing Enterprises of Fallbrook introduced its newly restored Crossle’ 35 vintage Formula Ford at the recent HSR-West event at California Speedway in Fontana. Fallbrook brother drivers Andy and Stewart Paterson, driving nearly identical cars, placed first and second, respectively, in the Saturday event.
During Sunday’s warm-up, Andy found that he had no power to the rear wheels. The thinking was that one of the drive shafts’ splines was probably sheared. The car was parked for the day. Stewart started on the pole and led the entire race Sunday race, though hotly contested by Chuck Pittenger in his Titan Mk6C Formula Ford.
“The newly restored car gave us teething problems throughout the weekend but performed beautifully during the race,” stated team owner Richard Holladay. Stewart had never raced on the California Speedway road racecourse and had not raced competitively for 15 years. “We were very pleased that the first time out our new car and driver won. It was not totally expected,” offered Holladay.
Stewart Paterson operates Paterson Motor Sports and is a racing engineer. Andy has driven for Holladay since April of 2005. “We thought it would be a neat idea to have a two-car team and set about finding a second car with the potential to run head to head with our Crossle’ 32. Stewart has been restoring the Crossle’ 35 and preparing it for racing since last November. It’s a beautifully restored car and now a proven winner,” said Holladay.
