Fallbrook wines win ribbons at county fair

Ten wines from Fallbrook winemakers earned ribbons at the San Diego County Fair’s homemade wine competition June 18.

Jim Swelgin won four ribbons, Jim Watring and Carin Howard won two apiece, and Jean Cooke and Bob Howard each won one award at the contest. Watring took home a first-place award in his category.

Swelgin earned second place in the Rose/Blush category for a wine consisting of approximately 50 percent Syrah and 50 percent Muscat Candh. He won both third and fifth in the Merlot category, taking fifth with a blend which was 90 percent Merlot and 10 percent Syrah. He took fourth place...
