Public comment period open for Gregory Canyon landfill

The County of San Diego Department of Environmental Health (DEH) is re-circulating a Revised Partial Draft Environmental Impact Report (PRDIER) for the Gregory Canyon Landfill project for public review and comment. The review period begins on July 10 and ends on August 24.

The Gregory Canyon Landfill PRDIER and the 2003 Environmental Impact Report (EIR) are available for review online at http://www.sdcounty.ca.gov/deh. They are also available at the following DEH offices: 1255 Imperial Ave., third floor, San Diego; 9325 Hazard Way, San Diego; and 151 Carmel St., San Marcos; and at the following public libraries: 239 S. Kalmia St., Escondido; 124 S. Mission Road, Fallbrook; 29200 Cole Grade Road, Valley Center; and 820 E St., San Diego.

A public meeting regarding the RPDIER will be held 6:30 p.m. August 14 in the City of Escondido Council Chambers at 201 North Broadway, Escondido. Verbal and written comments regarding the revised portions of the PRDEIR will be accepted at the meeting or by mail at DEH, 9325 Hazard Way, San Diego, CA 92123; fax at (858) 495-5004; or e-mail at [email protected].

All written comments must be received no later than 4 p.m. on August 24. DEH requests that reviewers limit the scope of their comments to the portions of the 2003 EIR that have been revised in the RPDEIR. DEH will respond only to comments received during this re-circulation period that relate to the revised portions contained in the RPDEIR.

The proposed Gregory Canyon Landfill project, located on SR 76 approximately three miles east of I-15, includes the construction and operation of a new Class III municipal solid waste landfill in the unincorporated area of San Diego County.
