Major Larry E. Spicer

Major Larry E. Spicer USMC (Ret.), age 58, died Thursday, September 14, 2006, at his home in Waynesville, OH, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. A devoted husband, father and Marine, Larry is remembered for his dedication to his family and his ever-present outgoing friendly smile. Larry was born in Mansfield, OH, and attended Madison High School and Ohio State University. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1967, proudly serving his country in Vietnam.

Upon his return, he joined the reserves and attended Fullerton College and Humboldt State University in CA.

He reenlisted in the Marine Corps in 1978 and retired on July 1, 2004, after 30 years of service.

He always said it took him 37 years to do 30! Larry was a member of The Marine Corps League, Marine Corps Association, The Military Order of the World Wars-Joseph H. Pendleton Chapter, Warrant Officer’s Association, Military Officers Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, Ohio State Alumni Association and National Eagle Scout Association. Larry was an avid Ohio State Buckeye and Cleveland Browns fan and will miss a Buckeye National Championship this year.

He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Donna Spicer; children Bridgett Spicer of San Diego, CA, Matt Spicer of San Diego, CA, and Esther Spicer of Denver, CO; mother Marjorie Spicer and sister Linda Spicer of Mansfield, OH. Family members also include Mildred Dillon, Jim Dillon, Doug and Regina Dillon and Terry Carr, all of Mansfield, OH; Dick and Suzie Danals of Canon City, CO; godfather and cousins Rev. Stephen Cairns and SR Marguerite Lamberjack of North Baltimore, OH; mother-in-law Beatrice Dombroski, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Kenneth and Christine Maziol and sister-in-law Bernadette Dombroski, all of Chino Hills, CA; sister-in-law Madeline Dombroski of Fullerton, CA; and three nephews and a niece.

He is preceded in death by his father, Jack Spicer, and grandmothers Theresa Spicer and Esther Murphy, of Mansfield, OH.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, with Rev. Stephen Cairns officiating, on Saturday, September 23, at 10:00 a.m., 54 South Mulberry, Mansfield, OH 44902. The Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors assisted the family.
