I have been a resident of Fallbrook for 28 years. My three children attended Fallbrook High School from 1996 until 2005. During those nine years, we saw the quality of education decline and the entire high school experience deteriorate. The two incumbent board candidates who are up for re-election were on the school board during that time, so I decided to attend the forum last week to hear all candidates’ views. One thing is clear: it is time for a change.
Neither incumbent, Jim Hutcherson nor Fran White, was able to articulate a clear vision of how to address problems facing the district. These problems include: increasing class size, growing district bureaucracy, declining staff morale and the shortest WASC accreditation the school has ever received. Under the current board’s leadership, the school has been placed on “program improvement for poor performance” on the California High School Exit Exam. No wonder that when Jim Hutcherson, a board member for the past 16 years, was asked what his greatest accomplishment as a board member was, he was not able to cite a single thing!
I know who I am voting for: Marc Steffler, Bill O’Conner and Mike Schulte. SOS: Save Our School.
