The American Cancer Society is recruiting volunteer team captains for the eighth annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer on Sunday, October 23, in Balboa Park. Team captains are asked to develop teams of at least 10 walkers who are encouraged to raise $100 each in pledges.
Nearly 2,000 San Diego County women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year and more than 400 will die of the disease, according to American Cancer Society statistics. From 1988 to 2001, breast cancer mortality declined by only 14 percent among Hispanic women, as compared to 22 percent in non-Hispanic white women due, in part, to later stage diagnosis.
To receive more information on becoming a team captain, please call (619) 682-7445 or log on to the American Cancer Society Web site at http://www.cancer.org/stridesonline.
