FALLBROOK — It was a perfect late morning gathering for the Fallbrook Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) to have their annual Champagne Brunch for new and perspective members. Gathered together with longtime members, the group enjoyed a delicious and colorful brunch menu of quiche, fruit, pastries and, of course, champagne and juice.
The setting was the Champagne Crest home of Chris Young, where the women heard from President Sherry Ludwig about the activities of AAUW and the work it does in the community. Scholarships for graduates in the AVID program, for post-graduates doing research and for other worthy recipients are a main focus for fundraising. Also, the AAUW group sends three to four seventh-graders to a science technology camp, Tech Trek, held at UCSD each summer. Educational Foundations and Legal Advocacy Funds were also explained as being AAUW National’s collective priority.
Stimulating special interest groups were described, such as two literature groups, mahjong, bridge, play-reading and international interests.
At its last national convention, AAUW voted to open the membership to women (and men) with Associate’s Degree from accredited community colleges. AAUW is recognized nationally for securing equal rights and opportunity for women and girls. For membership information call JoAnn Rego at (760) 731-6040.
