Gomez, Hernandez, Snyder and Reyes recognized

Fallbrook Union High School is proud to present the following students with National Hispanic Recognition Awards: Nik Gomez, Jasmine Hernandez and Brisa Snyder.

The National Hispanic Recognition Program, established in 1983, is a college board program that provides national recognition of the exceptional academic achievements of Hispanic high school seniors and identifies them for postsecondary institutions. Students enter the program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) as high school juniors and by identifying themselves as Hispanic. Four thousand, seven hundred of those students have been recognized as National Hispanic Scholars or Honorable Mention Finalists based upon their PSAT/NMSQT scores and their academic achievements.

FUHS Principal Rod King also announced that senior Zachary Reyes has been recognized by the National Achievement Scholarship Program. He is among 3,000 participants in the program who are being referred to US colleges and universities. These students scored in the top five percent of more than 130,000 Black Americans who requested consideration in the 2007 National Achievement Program when they took the 2005 PSAT/NMSQT. A roster of these students’ names, high schools and tentative college major choices is being sent to about 1,500 colleges and universities.

The National Achievement Scholarship Program was initiated in 1964 specifically to honor academically promising Black American high school students. The annual scholarship competition is conducted by National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which also conducts the National Merit Scholarship Program that is open to all US high school students. The route of entry to NMSC’s 2008 competition is the 2006 PSAT/NMSQT.
