Frederick E. Polk

Frederick E. Polk, 92, passed away December 13, 2006, in Fallbrook, CA. He was born December 18, 1913, in Port Townsend, WA. Mr. Polk was a resident of Fallbrook for 31 years.

Mr. Polk retired from the US Civil Service after 30 years as a mechanical engineer for the Army Corps of Engineers and Navy Engineering. He was a graduate of the University of Washington, retired from the US Navy Reserves after 31 years of service and was a WWII veteran. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Fallbrook; Rainbow Valley Grange #689; VFW Post 1924, Fallbrook; Sons of the American Revolution; and Toastmasters International, where he received the Toastmaster Gold Award. He was a past Commodore of Santa Margarita Yacht Club, past Rainbow Property Owners Board member, past volunteer tax preparer at Joslyn Senior Center, a lifelong member of the Democratic Party and member of the American Society of Heating and Cooling Engineers and the International Order of Blue Gavel SMYC. He enjoyed sailing, traveling, camping, home construction and engineer consulting after his retirement.

Mr. Polk was preceded in death by wife Dorothea Helen Polk in 2001. He is survived by daughter Sandra Eleanore Polk Palmisani, Fallbrook; sons and daughters-in-law John Frederick Polk and Amy Swenson, Prince Edward Island, Canada, and Roger and Kris Polk, Michigan; and seven grandchildren.

A visitation and funeral were held December 20, 2006. Interment with military honors will be held Thursday, December 21, 2006, at 2:30 p.m. at Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside. Donations may be made to Elizabeth Hospice, 150 Crest St., Escondido, CA 92025. Arrangements were handled by Berry-Bell & Hall Fallbrook Mortuary.
