The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department reported that a Hispanic man was shot and killed outside his residence at Fallbrook Village Apartments, 713 Elder Street, at approximately 6 p.m. on Sunday night, January 7.
Deputies arrived at the scene at 6:04 p.m. and found the man lying in front of the apartment complex. Although paramedics rendered first aid to the victim, they were unable to revive him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Early reports indicate the victim was involved in some type of altercation with at least one other man immediately preceding the shooting.
“At this point, we still don’t know what the argument or confrontation was about,” said Lt. Dennis Brugos of Homicide Detail. “We have a team of detectives working on it.”
As of press time, the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office said a positive identification and notification of next of kin has not yet made on the victim, but neighbors and co-workers said the victim was Juan Arreola, an assembly worker employed by Ultra Tec USA, Inc. in Fallbrook.
“He had worked here for about three years,” said Augustine Pavel. “He just seemed to be a hard-working, good guy.”
Brugos said detectives have located potential witnesses who were in the area and are working several leads. He also said this appears to have been a self-contained incident and not a random act.
“There is nothing to suggest that anyone else is in danger,” he said.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Homicide Detail at (858) 974-2321 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-TIPS (8477).
