MySpace article was appreciated

For the protection of our children in this community, we appreciate your well written article, MySpace.com - home of friends and felons, in the 2/8/07 issue of the Village News. Parents need to take this valuable information seriously, about the dangers/pitfalls of MySpace and other social networking Web sites. Let’s hope parents will heed the advice of Fred Baclagan and Dan Pearce’s Computer and Technology Crime High-Tech Response Team and become more vigilant with monitoring their children’s use of the computer. Your page layout was ingenious and inviting to read.

Kudos to you, Debbie, for jolting our community to the reality of how criminals and sex predators misuse MySpace and other social networking Web sites at the expense of children’s safety. I had one parent who took her 14-year-old to the MySpace crime-prevention presentation on January 30 at Zion Lutheran Church and the daughter refuses to use MySpace anymore. She feels compelled now to help her friends understand how these criminals can abuse the vulnerability of our young people.
