On Saturday, February 10, well-known arborist Mark Wisniewski presented a seminar on pruning and tree care to an attentive audience at the Fallbrook Land Conservancy’s Palomares House. The course was sponsored by Fallbrook Save Our Forest, an affiliate of the Fallbrook Land Conservancy (FLC).
The class covered all aspects of properly planting and pruning young trees for strength and form. Wisniewski spent considerable time on this, because universally, tree pruning is done improperly. The right tools and their maintenance were discussed as an important component of tree maintenance.
The second part of the seminar was a “hands-on” opportunity for attendees to practice their newly acquired skills on young trees at the Palomares House.
Perhaps the most important lesson learned was the avoidance of the common practice of “tree topping,” which permanently weakens and deforms larger trees.
