ESCONDIDO — The San Diego County Farm Bureau’s Scholarship Program is offering scholarships to college and college-bound students who are residents of San Diego County and pursuing a degree in agriculture or a closely related field. Applicants are not required to be Farm Bureau members. The application deadline is April 6.
Last year the San Diego County Farm Bureau Scholarship Committee awarded $12,750 in varying amounts to 12 recipients whose majors included plant science, ag business, ag education and landscape management at institutions ranging from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo to Cal State Fresno to MiraCosta College.
The San Diego County Farm Bureau scholarship application is available to established students as well as entering freshmen at two- or four-year colleges or universities. Scholarship recipients will be selected primarily on academic achievement, career goals and a commitment to study agriculture. Secondary criteria include extracurricular activities, financial need and written expression. Previous applicants and former scholarship recipients may reapply for a Farm Bureau Scholarship by submitting an updated application, recommendations and grade transcripts.
Applications and recommendation forms are available from the Farm Bureau office or can be downloaded from its Web site at http://www.sdfarmbureau.org. Deadline is 5 p.m. Friday, April 6.
