On December 22, 2006, at 2 p.m., while returning from Christmas shopping, I was driving with my wife on East Alvarado, approaching the corner of Alvarado and Emilia, when suddenly my side window exploded in a shower of glass shards. We were able to pull over to the side of the road and exit the car. Two young men who were right behind and saw the incident stopped to help and see if we were okay.
Apparently, we were the victims of a wrist rocket attack. Perhaps it was a youngster who had gotten one for Christmas and just could not wait to try it out. What would be better than a moving target? The aim was true and definitely found its mark!
The missile could only have been fired from the corner property at Emilia, as there is no other property close to the actual spot we were hit. This was all reported to the California Highway Patrol, who agreed with us as to where the attack came from and indicated the investigation would be followed up.
We are telling you this story because others should be aware that when traveling along that particular stretch of highway, it is dangerous to do so; the assailant has not been apprehended yet! Also, we no longer drive that beautiful stretch of road and that is sad.
