FALLBROOK — The 2007 Village Match for the Fallbrook Winery Cup will begin on March 6 at Fallbrook Golf Club. The home and away golf matches will continue on March 27 at San Luis Rey, followed by the May 1 match at Pala Mesa Resort and the finale at Golf Club of California on June 5.
This year’s teams will be doubled in size. Each club will be represented by one golf professional and seven men’s club members. Last year’s inaugural season was won by the men of Golf Club of California.
This year, Fallbrook Winery has agreed to sponsor a season-ending trophy, to be presented at the winery after the June 5 match. The winning team will receive a hand-engraved double magnum of premium Fallbrook Wine. A worthy trophy for this Village Match championship waged between the four Fallbrook Golf Clubs. Owner Ted Gourvitz is proud to present the trophy to the Fallbrook community.
Each of the golf professionals – Beau Burros of Fallbrook, Scott Bentley of Golf Club of California, Mark Mittlehaueser of Pala Mesa Resort and Greg Milligan of San Luis Rey – has taken a special interest in this competition and all played last year. By expanding the team to eight players, “more members have an opportunity to be competitive and play on other courses for fun and camaraderie,” says Burros.
Those interested in playing in this event may contact the men’s club at any of the courses.
