Fallbrook High School placed third overall in the San Diego County Decathlon held on February 2.
Placement is based on a total point count earned by the entire Academic Decathlon Team in ten exams: Art, Language and Literature, Math, Economics, Science, Music, Essay, Super Quiz (theme: the Civil War), Speech and Interview.
Additionally, they placed first in the Interview category, second overall in Math and second overall in Essay.
The Fallbrook Academic Decathlon team coaches are Betz Critchley, Dorothy Hartford and Tracy Markham.
Note: The two schools that beat Fallbrook both have Academic Decathlon classes as part of their day, so the kids get credit and a grade. Fallbrook’s participants do this totally on their own time with no reward except personal achievement. Also, congratulations to Jeremiah Zamora, who became a US citizen three weeks ago.
