The San Diego County Board of Supervisors approved the advertisement for bid and subsequent award of a construction contract to install new guardrail segments and replace existing guardrail end sections throughout the unincorporated portion of the county.
The supervisors’ 4-0 vote March 26, with Supervisor Ron Roberts absent, also appropriates $139,800 of road fund balance for the project, bringing the total budgeted amount to $1,071,800.
The county had previously budgeted $932,000 of Proposition 1B funds for the work.
Each year the county’s Department of Public Works repairs, installs, and replaces guardrails and end sections along roads where guardrails have been damaged or where DPW has determined the greatest need to upgrade existing guardrails to current design standards.
This year’s construction is scheduled to begin in summer and be completed by winter 2008-09.
The guardrail locations include DeLuz Road 500 feet north of Mile Post 2.0, Gopher Canyon Road west of Old Highway 395, and Olive Hill Road west of Via Puerta Del Sol.
