Andrew (Dong) Lee recently attended the 2008 Gifted Students Academy (GSA) academic camp at the University of California, Irvine.
Lee, who graduated top of his eighth grade class from Potter Junior High School in June, attended the camp for high achieving middle school students.
“It was an unforgettable experience,” he said.
Lee was particularly interested in attending classes in anatomy and argumentation/debate. His goal is to become an orthopedic surgeon.
Lee opted for the residential program on campus, versus being a commuter for the academic camp.
“I was able to spend additional time outside of the classroom with other participating students,” he said. “The residential program offered me a well-balanced schedule of mental and physical activities. I was exposed to an environment that enabled me to experience and appreciate life on a university campus.”
The GSA program has been running successfully for more than a decade. Its success is evident by many returning campers, the wide variety of curriculum and a college learning environment.
Classes include scientific investigations such as forensics and chemistry, law and mock trial, critical reading and literary analysis and classes for interpersonal development.
