FALLBROOK — Doug LaBrecque, who has thrilled theater audiences as the Phantom in Harold Prince’s award-winning musical “The Phantom of the Opera,” will step into the guest soloist spotlight at this year’s Symphony “Pops” on the Green concert Thursday, August 14.
A favorite with audiences of symphonic concerts across the country, LaBrecque is a tenor with a clarity of voice that is easy on the ear. He has starred on Broadway in “Showboat,” was featured in Oscar Hammerstein’s 100th birthday celebration on Broadway and has toured nationally with “Les Miserables.”
A graduate of the University of Michigan, he is also an active concert soloist with some of the world’s finest symphony orchestras.
Under the direction of conductor Randall Craig Fleischer, this traditional community summer concert features a special engagement of the San Diego Symphony Orchestra with a program that promises to be an exciting exploration of American Pops and music that is familiar to many, such as “The Music of the Night” from “Phantom,” “Over the Rainbow,” “Come Rain or Come Shine,” main titles from “Star Wars,” “Let it Be” and “Caravan,” among others.
“We are honored to have the fabulous San Diego Symphony Orchestra for an encore performance to help us celebrate our 23rd year of presenting this wonderful summer event to the North County area in the beautiful surroundings of the Grand Tradition,” said Brenda Montiel, president of the Music Society.
“We invite families, friends and music fans of all ages to come out and experience the power of a live symphony concert,” she added.
Concertgoers may purchase a preordered barbecue dinner or bring their own picnics or snacks. Beverages will be available for purchase on-site. Those attending are also encouraged to bring blankets and low-backed chairs for lawn seating.
Title Sponsor Bill Horn, San Diego County Board of Supervisors, and Silver Sponsor Banc of America Investment Services, Inc., the Hegardt Group, generously underwrite this year’s program.
