Bonsall Rotary learns about care giving

Teddie Borges, Bonsall Rotarian and facility administrator for the Fallbrook Adult Day Care Center, recently spoke to the Bonsall Rotarians about “a day in the life” of a caregiver.

“Caregivers are the unsung heroes,” stated Borges, “especially those folks caring for a loved one who is suffering from a form of dementia.”

She told several stories about her favorite uncle who suffered from Alzheimer’s and her cousin who was his primary caregiver. She said until her uncle was diagnosed she had no idea what it meant to be a caregiver and how the journey with him would change their lives. Because of him it became her passion to care for seniors.

Borges was asked what to look for if you suspect a loved one may have dementia. She responded, “If you suspect their behavior is unusual and different, seek help. Speak to your doctor and request an assessment.”

“We provide excellent care for the clients and I am always there for the caregivers,” Borges said. She is also available to consult with caregivers and will provide the resources they need to plan their journey with their loved one.

Fallbrook Adult Day Care Center, known as “The Club,” is a social recreational respite day program designed for seniors who are frail, physically challenged or memory impaired.
