Fallbrook High School senior Uriel Aguirre finished tenth among more than 300 runners in the senior boys race at the Woodbridge Invitational September 20 in Irvine.
Aguirre had a time of 15:49 on the 3.05-mile course despite a wrong turn on the course. He had been fifth before attempting to take the lead and missing the second turn on the second mile. He posted a first-mile time of 5:05.
Medals were given to the top 90 finishers in each race, and Fallbrook took home three medals. In addition to Aguirre, Garrison Haddon finished 49th in the junior race and Michael Froboes placed 76th among sophomores.
Haddon finished with a time of 15:53. “That was really quite a pleasant surprise,” said Fallbrook coach Marco Arias.
Froboes posted a time of 17:12. “He’s really starting to come into his own, believing that he’s a varsity runner,” Arias said.
“This whole sophomore group is going to be one to watch,” Arias said. “The surprise of the day was with Justin Jones.”
Jones, who is in his first year of running cross-country, had a time of 17:32 to finish 107th. “He just cracked into our varsity level group,” Arias said.
Fallbrook sophomore Ramon Villagomez had a time of 17:47 while Andrew Donnelly ran the sophomore race in 17:49. “I’m very pleased with the way we’re developing,” Arias said.
