The Fallbrook Fire Safe Council is holding a remembrance event at 1 p.m. on February 10 to mark the seventh anniversary of the Gavilan Fire.
Until the Rice Fire of 2007, the Gavilan Fire was the most destructive Fallbrook had ever experienced. It resulted in the formation of the Fire Safe Council.
This event honors the work of the Fire Safe Council, recognizing the ongoing cooperative efforts of the council and Supervisor Bill Horn in reducing vegetation that helped to save many homes in the Rice Fire.
Attendees will meet at the end of Macadamia Drive at Via Milpas, an abatement location where many homes were protected in the Rice Fire. For location information and directions, call (760) 728-1100.
