Need a break? Glen Ivy Hot Springs Spa offers a uniquely relaxing experience

Most children refer to theme parks as ‘the best places on Earth.’ However, for adults looking for rejuvenation and relaxation, Glen Ivy Hot Springs is the best place to unwind, relax and catch up with friends, while being pampered.

Located in Corona, Glen Ivy Spa is convenient to residents of Riverside, San Diego, Orange and Los Angeles counties, so friends from throughout Southern California can easily meet at the spa for a relaxing day of friendship, laughter and fun.

The natural mineral baths of Glen Ivy have been used since the mid-1800s to help weary travelers build up the energy and strength needed to continue on their journey to surrounding areas.

While the spa’s admission prices have gone up since the 1890s (when guests paid 25¢ for spa entrance, bathing suit and towel), Glen Ivy’s low admission price allows men and women access to pools, mineral baths, saunas, steam rooms, Roman baths, Club Mud, towels and lockers.

Upon entering the spa, visitors are greeted by an interesting combination of both modern and ancient décor, as well as lush flora to provide shade and an atmosphere of paradise.

There’s plenty to keep spa guests busy. For first-timers, Glen Ivy suggests beginning the day by dipping in the mineral and sulfurous baths. The naturally warm water bubbles up from the earth into the pools. As guests sit and soak in the water, minerals are absorbed by the skin, softening any rough spots, while the warm water relaxes muscles.

Going to Club Mud is next. Club Mud is Glen Ivy’s best attraction, as it offers guests the opportunity to smear on gobs of therapeutic red clay mud, then bathe in a cleansing mud pool or sit out and dry in the ‘Wafa,’ a warm rock room.

The mud draws impurities from the pores, absorbing them, then releases waste and dead skin cells while tightening and revitalizing the skin. While sitting in a pile of mud, it’s easy to laugh as you watch your friends glob on the goop. The last thing you’re thinking about is the toxins leaving your skin.

Once the mud dries, it becomes loose and powdery, allowing guests to lightly exfoliate their skin. Showering off the remaining mud using Glen Ivy’s own lavender-scented cleanser is heavenly and will cleanse the senses as well as the body.

To help put moisture back into the skin, a trip to The Grotto is called for. For a nominal charge, guests are taken into a cavern-like area, where an attendant coats them with a rich, warm, light green body moisturizer of sea kelp, aloe vera and other beneficial elements.

This thick, luscious moisturizer feels great on rough patches of skin and all over the body. After rinsing off the moisturizer, guests can cool off with a cup of tea and a green apple before heading out again to the surface.

Massages and other therapeutic treatments, such as wraps, facials and scrubs, also add to the enjoyment of Glen Ivy. Traditional and Swedish massages are offered at the spa, but Lomi Lomi and Watsu massage are just a few of the body work treatments worth the investment.

This experience is as wonderful and relaxing as it sounds. In true Glen Ivy style, there are huge oak trees along one side of the property. During warmer weather, guests can book one of the eight separate rooms with wooden walls and the branches of the oak trees forming the ceiling for a one-of-a-kind massage.

After a massage, nothing feels better than soaking in an Epsom salt bath, unless it’s Glen Ivy’s Epsom salt pool with jets. If the water gets too warm, a pool offers lounge rafts perfect to doze on while getting some sun.

Finding something to eat isn’t a problem at Glen Ivy, either. With Café Solé offering nutritional fare and refreshing snacks, it’s easy to splurge on chicken nachos, a shrimp calzone with salad or a lasagna bowl with sweet and Italian sausage.

Glen Ivy is the perfect answer when relaxation and tranquility are the key goals of the day. The soothing atmosphere will give guests more than enough reason to come back again soon.

Glen Ivy’s hours are 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily through October 18 and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning October 19. For more information on Glen Ivy Hot Springs Spa, call (888) GLEN-IVY or visit http://www.glenivy.com.
