Man sustains life-threatening burn injuries

A 50-year old man sustained life-threatening burns and had to be transported by medical helicopter after being extracted from a house fire in the 700 block of Olive Avenue in Fallbrook shortly after 10 a.m. Friday morning, Dec. 4, fire officials said.

“It took both fire personnel and deputies from the Sheriff’s department to extract him from the house,” said John Buchanan, public information officer for North County Fire. “He sustained life-threatening injuries and had to be transported by Mercy Air to University of California at San Diego (UCSD) medical center.”

Buchanan said the fire was extinguished within approximately eight minutes and appears to have been contained to a bedroom in the split-level, single family residence. The home is estimated to be between 1,800 and 2,000 square feet.

“A family of five lived there,” said Buchanan, who added that all family members appear to be adults.

Buchanan said the Red Cross was called because the family will temporarily be displaced due to the blaze.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Buchanan said.
