I want to especially thank all the volunteers who donated their time to help the needy and hungry clients at the Fallbrook Food Pantry. We have all ages of volunteers – from teenagers to super seniors – working hard at least one day a week so that others can have a little more food to eat and clothing to wear. They have accumulated over 10,000 hours this year.
The economy has been down, so contributions are down. We have rented large Penske trucks to haul approximately 12 tons of canned goods and produce from the San Diego food banks most every week this year. Every day about one and a half tons of food is given out. This would not be possible without the help of this very giving community.
The churches and schools have great food drives. The school children really pitch in and help. The postal letter carriers collect tons of food every spring with their food collection program.
This Thanksgiving, Albertsons and Major Market had their customers donating to the food pantry. Donations of one, two or more dollars at the checkout stands added up to a total of 175 dinners (for six or eight people) and 175 free turkeys prior to Thanksgiving. Similar numbers will be collected prior to Christmas.
The high school students had their toy drive again this year. Mr. and Mrs. Santa were also very helpful again this year.
May everyone have a great holiday and please keep warm.
