The song, “Go Tell it on the Mountain” is a favorite hymn of mine. I don’t particularly like the music or the sing ability of it, as much as I appreciate its simplicity. It doesn’t make a heavy or complicated doctrinal claim; it doesn’t proclaim a difficult truth. It simply sings the song, which is the story-telling of the birth of a Savior. It doesn’t proclaim Jesus as the answer. It simply names Him as the Messiah. It simply points to the beginning of a blessed opportunity. “Go Tell it on the Mountain, that Jesus Christ is Born!”
But when we sing this song, something happens. We begin to proclaim and invite sharing of the truth that so many never hear… Jesus is “the Christ,” the Messiah, the Savior, The Redeemer; Jesus is alive. God… born… present… has descended from Heaven to walk among humans. Immanuel, “God With Us.” He continues to live in you and in me. What a wonderful song, like birdsong, it brings joy to all who understand.
A bird does not sing because it has an answer.
It sings because it has a song.
Let this simple truth be your song…”Jesus Christ is alive in me.”
