Village Home Care provides compassionate service

For over a decade, Village Home Care has been instrumental in helping their clients remain in their own homes by having caregivers assist them with their non-medical caregiver needs.

Since its inception, clients have come to depend on Village Home Care professionals for help with personal care, bathing and showering, healthy meal planning, shopping and day trips, exercise assistance, and medication reminders. Whether the need involves only two hours or 24 hours round-the-clock help, Village Home Care is there to help.

“Some of the services we provide include ‘settling in’ after being discharged from a hospital or skilled nursing facility and being supportive during the first few days of being home,” said Carol Stevens, owner. “We are also unique in that we offer a sleepover service for persons who might not be safe alone at night; we offer a special rate for those services which might not be an option with other companies.”

Likewise, Village Home Care assists hospice programs by helping with an individual’s daily routine, caring for the individual with the utmost compassion.

Over the years, Stevens has seen a change in her industry. A high percentage of calls, she said, are from adult children who live out of town while their aged parents remain in their preferred town of Fallbrook. More times than not, these adult children are overwhelmed and do not know how to begin helping.

“After getting the initial information, I go to the client’s home and meet with them so I can get a feel for what and how often they might like some help,” Stevens said. “I reassure them we are not there to change their routines... we are coming into their home to assist and help them stay where they want to live.”

While there, Stevens said she offers home safety suggestions and has connections with other resources, if needed. At the end of the visit, new clients are given a tentative caregiver schedule.

Stevens said the initial visit is complimentary and Village Home Care does not require the family to sign a contract.

Stevens considers her home health care company unique because it’s her only business. “I do not work anywhere else or for anyone else,” she said. “I devote one hundred percent of my time to my Village Home Care clients and their families.”

A lifelong Fallbrook resident, Stevens is committed to her community. Over the years, she has had the honor of caring for her past grade-school teachers.

Stevens claims she is blessed to have such wonderful and dedicated caregivers on staff. In addition to comprehensive background checks, Stevens explains that a potential caregiver needs to impart more than just the desire to help others.

“My caregivers need to have a true, deep passion for making each visit a remarkable one, to leave the client better than when we arrived, to assist, to encourage and to enrich their day,” she said. “That’s what is important.”

Stevens wants people to know that Village Home Care provides care and assistance wherever a person’s home may be. This includes private homes, retirement facilities, board and care homes, and residential facilities. And utilizing their services does not require a doctor’s order.

Village Home Care has not increased their fees for nearly three years. “Our prices are very competitive with the other agencies that provide the care that we do,” said Stevens, citing how she reminds first-time callers to ask other home healthcare agencies for proof of insurance. “Don’t take a chance on home care.”
