"Shining Blades" bring home the gold

FALLBROOK – Sophie Grizzle of Fallbrook and Marcelina Roccoforte of Bonsall, as members of San Diego’s synchronized ice skating team, the Shining Blades, helped bring home the coveted gold medal from the 2010 Midwestern/Pacific Coast Synchronized Skating Sectional Championships held in Iowa, Jan. 28-30.

The undefeated team, skating at the pre-juvenile level, competed against six other teams from the Pacific Coast. The team is coached by Susan Morrison and Brian Thayer of San Diego Ice Arena in Mira Mesa. Twelve girls, ages 9 to 14, all San Diego County residents, comprise the team, inclu...
