Camp Pendleton Marine arrested for shooting at unoccupied car

DANA POINT - Authorities arrested a Camp Pendleton Marine suspected of shooting at a unoccupied car owned by a bouncer at a Dana Point bar, a lieutenant said today.

Sheriff's detectives arrested Mario Shelby, 23, for allegedly firing several shots into a vehicle in a parking lot near Hennessey's Tavern at La Plaza and Pacific Coast Highway about 3 a.m. Saturday, Lt. Ted Boyne of the Orange County Sheriff's Department said.

Three other men with Shelby were questioned and detained, Boyne said.

Shelby was accused of firing seven or eight shots at a Honda owned by a Hennessey's bouncer, according to the Orange County Register.

According to police reports, the men -- described by witnesses as being in their 20's -- left Hennessey's, visited a party near La Plaza and Pacific Coast Highway, then went to the parking lot and fired the shots at the vehicle, the Register reported.

Witnesses said they fled in a red sedan, Boyne said.

A short time later, deputies found four men sitting in a red Lincoln near the Santa Ana (5) Freeway and Califia Street in San Clemente, and found a 40-caliber handgun in the glove box, Boyne said.
